Completion of the north Sarasota neighborhood enhancements project will be marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 17 at 2323 N. Euclid Ave., Sarasota.

Work began on an approximately $2.3 construction project in January 2011. The infrastructure and other improvements were made in the north Sarasota area bordered by 17th Street on the south, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way on the north, Mango Street on the west and Tuttle Avenue on the east.

The project included construction of about 2.5 miles of 5-foot-wide sidewalks on various streets and two roundabouts on Euclid Avenue at the intersections of 21st and 24th Streets. Sections of two roads were widened: Euclid Avenue between 17th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, and Mango Avenue from 19th Street to Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Major improvements were made at the intersection of Mango Avenue and 19th Street.

Also as part of the project, stormwater ponds and drainage facilities were added, and private utilities lines were relocated.
