About 300 East County residents turned out last night for a public scoping meeting hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard about the proposed Fort Hamer Bridge.

Residents were able to look at maps and to speak with representatives of URS, the company Manatee County has hired to design the project, before listening to a presentation and offering their opinions and concerns about impacts of the bridge.

The public meeting was required as part of an environmental impact study being conducted by the Coast Guard.
