Resident upset about pipeline staging site

A Buttonwood Drive resident is upset that a construction company is using vacant home lots on Neptune and Triton Drives as a staging area for large black plastic pipes being used for the town’s water pipeline upsizing project.

Thomas Jendrysik, a Buttonwood Drive resident, sent a letter to the Town Commission dated Jan. 11 in which he states loud truck noises coming from construction vehicles are heard every morning from the staging site.

Wrote Jendrysik: “It is bad enough that the Town Commission has permitted the destruction of the pleasant wooded area for a development which has leveled the area, but now, you are permitting it to be used as a storage area for trucks and material.”

Town Manager Bruce St. Denis and Public Works Director Juan Florensa, however, said Palmetto-based Westra Construction Corporation reached an agreement with Collier-Walker Development to use the site as a staging area for the upsizing project.

The project consists of the installation of approximately 14,000 lineal feet of 12–inch to 16-inch diameter water pipes along the east side of Gulf of Mexico Drive from Bay Isles Road to the south end of the Key.  
The project’s estimated completion date is September 2010, weather permitting.

St. Denis and Florensa said the construction company must adhere to town codes, including the town’s noise ordinance that permits work before 8 a.m.
