Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce President Tom Aposporos told The Longboat Observer Monday, Nov. 22, that a public transit committee has formed to increase awareness about the trolley system on Longboat Key.

The committee also hopes to find potential ways to help fund a $100,000 shortfall for the Manatee County portion of the trolley route.

Members of the committee include Aposporos, Commissioner David Brenner and avid trolley rider and Longboat Key resident Freda Perrotta.

The Town Commission hopes a deal can be worked out with Manatee and Sarasota counties to continue the trolley operating throughout the entire island by the end of the year.
