Professional motorcycle racer Michael Corbino Jr., a Longboat Key native who lived in Sarasota, died in a motorcycle accident 3 a.m. Sunday. He was 27.

Corbino died at the scene, and his passenger, Jasmine Fraser, 22, of Bradenton, was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is currently listed in critical condition.

The motorcycle was traveling northbound on South Tamiami Trail when Corbino lost control at the curb north of Selby Gardens, hitting a tree. At this time, police do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
