Proper Grip

By Steve Whidden

Rosedale PGA Certified Director of Instruction

Most players hold the club much too tightly, which not only reduces the speed of the forward swing (loss of distance), but also makes it difficult to square the club face up at impact (loss of accuracy).

If this is you, try this drill: practice hitting some little shots with a 9-iron with your right thumb and forefinger totally off of the grip.  This will put the "pressure" in the last three fingers of the left hand, and the middle two of the right hand where it belongs.  You'll be amazed how this proper amount of pressure will help your game.
