Peace River Electric’s charitable foundation plans to give out $25,000 in college scholarships to area high school students.

The foundation, called Operation Round Up, is offering a maximum of 10 scholarships; five renewable four-year scholarships of $4,000 each and five non-renewable one-year scholarships worth $1,000 each.

Scholarships are limited to adults and their dependents who live on PRECO’s lines and are members of the cooperative.

“We are grateful to the Peace River Electric community of members whose voluntary contributions make this program possible,” said Julian “Tip” Tharp, president of the Operation Round Up board. “This will be the fifth consecutive year we’ve offered scholarships to help students cope with the increasing costs of a higher education.”

Students wishing to apply for the scholarships should contact their school’s guidance office for information. The deadline for applications is March 1.
