Local cowboys and professional polo players will compete this weekend in a contest meant to prove participants' skills in everything from fishing and cattle roping to horse racing and polo.

Schroeder-Manatee Ranch will host its annual SMR Cup this weekend, as cowboys and polo players compete for the coveted Bull Trophy, which will be awarded to the winning team in Sunday.

The public is invited to see the roping and penning portion of the competition from 2-5 p.m. Jan. 28, at the rodeo arena at the Sarasota Polo Club. Admission is free.

On Sunday, the public can see cowboys and polo players compete in a horse race during halftime of the polo match. The polo match starts at 1 p.m. and admission costs $10.
