A Sarasota family is seeking help finding 85-year-old Newton Whidden, who was last seen Aug. 22 at a Sarasota pharmacy.

The last trace of Whidden in Sarasota was his cellphone, which was left behind in a local pharmacy. His white van was found more than 100 miles away in Okeechobee. Searches in Okeechobee produced no results or clues.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Silver Alert for Whidden. The alert is used to broadcast information about missing persons.

Whidden should be carrying a wallet, identification and a checkbook, according to daughter Linda Oelschlaeger. Whidden is 5-foot, 9-inches tall, weighs 130 pounds and has white hair and hazel eyes.

If you have any information concerning Whidden’s whereabouts, call 911, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office at 861-5800 or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s endangered persons’ line at (888) 356-4774.
