The Police Advisory Panel is expected to present this evening its final recommendations on how to improve the Sarasota Police Department.

Last week, city management asked and received a one-month extension for the panel to give it more time, but Chairwoman Susan Chapman said that time was not needed.

“We’re ready with our report,” she said.

The Police Advisory Panel began its biweekly meetings six months ago by order of the City Commission, which asked panel members to examine the police department’s policies and procedures.

That request came in the wake of the botched police brutality investigation last summer.

The panel’s recommendations are expected to address issues such as racial profiling, disparate treatment of minorities and improving community relations.
