Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Lastings Milledge, a 2003 Lakewood Ranch High School graduate, visited with members of the Palmetto Boys & Girls Club Dec. 14.

During his visit, Milledge reflected on going to elementary school in Palmetto, having played baseball and football as a youth here, and shared stories about his hard work and dedication to the sport of baseball with club members. Milledge offered words of advice and answered questions, signed autographs, took photos and distributed Pirates baseball hats.

Following his discussion, Milledge toured the site of the new Palmetto Boys & Girls Club building, which will be competed in April, and played pool and ping-pong with club members.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County serve more than 3,000 youth at five locations (Harllee Middle School, Southeast High School, Bradenton, DeSoto and Palmetto). The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
