The town of Longboat Key’s pipeline project contractor is working to install new potable water pipes in the 2200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive to the 2950 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive this week.

The $2.1 million project consists of the installation of approximately 18,000 lineal feet of 12- to 16-inch-diameter water pipes along the east side of Gulf of Mexico Drive from Bay Isles Road to the south end of the Key.

No horizontal drilling is expected to occur this week, and the contractor will be testing the connections of the new pipes from the 280 block to the 2950 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive.

Asphalt repairs also will be active this week from the 525 block to the 400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive.
Grading, sodding and watering will also be observed along Gulf of Mexico Drive.

A construction zone speed limit of 35 mph is in effect in all lanes from the south Key water station to Bay Isles Road.

Questions about the project may be directed to the Public Works Department at 316-1988.
