O'Rourke to headline Tiger Bay event

From the parking meter fiasco to Lift Station 87, political satirist P.J. O'Rourke wouldn’t have to work very hard to poke fun at Sarasota. He may get the chance to do so when he arrives for a Tiger Bay Club event Dec. 4, at Michael's on East.

O’Rourke, the H. L. Mencken Research Fellow at the Cato Institute, will speak at noon, with a book-signing following a question-and-answer session at 1:30 p.m. The program, which begins at 11:30 a.m., costs $70, but sponsorship opportunities are also available.

“He'll talk books, politics and a little of everything,” said Sarasota Tiger Bay Club Executive Director Kim Noyes.

O’Rourke’s latest work, “The Baby Boom: How It Got That Way . . . And It Wasn't My Fault . . . And I'll Never Do It Again,” skewers the post-war generation. He spent two decades reporting for Rolling Stone and the Atlantic Monthly, and served as editor-and-chief of National Lampoon.
