Ooh-rah! Brian Walsh, son of Matt and Lisa Walsh of Longboat Key, graduated from U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidates School and was commissioned a second lieutenant March 18 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Quantico, Va.

Walsh is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, in Boston, and Booker High School, in Sarasota.

There to pin on his lieutenant’s bars were his grandfathers: George Walsh, a World War II Marine veteran, and David Beliles, a Korean War Marine veteran and Plymouth Harbor resident. (See photo.)
Walsh credits his grandfathers, as well as Longboater Col. John Saputo and the late Gens. Jim Patterson and Jim Edmundson, as his inspiration.

Walsh will spend the next six months at The Basic School, in Quantico.
