Obituary: Rosemary O'Brien

Rosemary O’Brien, of Longboat Key, died Dec. 11. She was 91.

Mrs. O’Brien was born July 7, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a graduate of Visitation Academy in Bay Ridge, N.Y. She was a longtime parishioner and active volunteer at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church, in Kinnelon, N.J., until moving in 1985 to Longboat Key. She was an active parishioner at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church, member of the Women’s Guild and Rosary Society. She held the rank of Lady Commander in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. She was a volunteer for the St. Vincent De Paul Society and for the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County Inc.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Dennis, Robert and Barry; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; sister, Doris Brown, of Springfield, Va.; brother, Edward McGurn, of Jupiter; daughters, Maureen O’Brien Hurley, of Providence, R.I., Susan Papada, of Wynnewood, Pa., Kathleen Cirillo, of Smoke Rise, N.J.; sons Kevin, of Doylestown, Pa., Gerald, of Jacksonville, and Michael, of Doylestown; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Thursday, Dec. 15, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. Donations in her memory may be made to Philanthropy Department, Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla., 34238.
