Obituary: Robert James Warfel

Robert James Warfel, 93, of Longboat Key, died Aug. 16.

Mr. Warfel was born May 10, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific islands of the Philippines and New Guinea.

Mr. Warfel received a bachelor’s degree in business management in 1949 from George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. He worked for the National Geographic Society as director for the promotion and marketing of books.

After retiring in 1985, Mr. Warfel and his wife moved to the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. In 2001, he moved to the Longbeach Village to enjoy the warm weather with his second wife, Mary Geeslin-Warfel.

Mr. Warfel was an avid outdoorsman, award-winning photographer and member of the Suncoast Camera Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church, 563 Bay Isles Road.
