OBITUARY: The Rev. Kenneth 'Father Ken' Higginbotham

The Rev. Kenneth “Father Ken” Higginbotham, 82, of Sarasota, died Aug. 5.

Born May 1, 1928, he grew up in Worcester, Mass., and graduated from Classical High School in Worcester and Trinity College, in Hartford, Conn.

In 1954, he was ordained to the priesthood and graduated from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University.
Higginbotham served as interim priest at All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church from 1999 to 2000 and was serving there as assisting priest at the time of his death. He also served at Christ the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, in Los Angeles, and Christ Church of Bradenton.

Higginbotham is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons Kenneth Jr., Paul, Stephen, Keith and Christopher; daughter, Andrea; stepchildren Avis and Michael Hight; godson, Kenneth Singleton; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at Christ Church of Bradenton, 4030 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to The Springs Rehabilitation Center or Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care and sent c/o Ruth Higginbotham, 4488 McIntosh Lake Ave., Sarasota, Fla. 34233-1982.
