Nancy McFarland, 79, of Longboat Key and Rye, N.H., died July 26.

Born Oct. 29, 1934, in Bristol, Vt., she attended Bristol public schools before moving to Middlebury, Vt., where she worked as a nurse at Porter Hospital. On Nov. 2, 1955, she married Henry McFarland.

Mrs. McFarland was an accomplished artisan who enjoyed knitting and needlepoint and learned the art of basketweaving from Martha Weatherbee in the last 10 years. She was known for her Shaker-style and Nantucket lightship baskets. She also loved her garden, the arts and cooking.

Mrs. McFarland is survived by her husband of more than 59 years, Henry; daughter, Susan Moynahan, and son, Jay McFarland, both of Rye; sister, Elizabeth McKinnon, of Hinesburg, Vt.; half-brother, Dale Norton, of Starksboro, Vt.; and five grandchildren.

A graveside service will take place Aug. 7, in Rye. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made NHSPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885 or the Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire, 12 Center St., second floor, Exeter, NH 03833. A celebration of life is currently planned for late November on Longboat Key.
