Martin Rettinger, 80, of New York City, Fire Island, N.Y., and Longboat Key, died April 18.

Born Sept. 15, 1929, Mr. Rettinger was a retired New York State Supreme Court justice. He is remembered by friends and family members as a person who wanted every individual who crossed his path to get a fair deal. One example of this trait occurred when he convinced his neighbors to stop blowing grass when they mowed their lawns because a mother swan was nesting nearby.

Mr. Rettinger is survived by his wife, Jill Considine; daughter, Danielle; and sisters Phyllis Ratner and Diane Shore.

A funeral service took place Thursday, April 22, in New York City. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to The GO Project, 86 Fourth Ave. S., New York, N.Y., 10003.
