Obituary: Margaret Brown

Margaret Brown, 98, formerly of Longboat Key, died Dec. 22.

Mrs. Brown was born in Quesnel, British Columbia, and spent most of her life in New England. She graduated from Radcliffe College.

She married Darrell Root, who died in 1978. She then married Sheldon Brown, who died in 2006.

In addition to her family and community, Mrs. Brown’s interests included bridge, gardening, music, dancing, tennis and golf. She was a member of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and the Longboat Key Club.

Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her first husband, Darrell Root, second husband, Sheldon Brown, and daughter, Carol Root, of Fort Myers.

She is survived by children Stephen Root of Pleasanton, Calif., and Elizabeth Blackmer, of Tenants Harbor, Maine; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
