OBITUARY: Marcelyn Jean Henrikson

Marcelyn Jean “Marcy” Henrikson, 79, of Elgin, Ill., and Longboat Key, died May 11.

Born April 27, 1934, in Joplin, Mo., she enjoyed playing tennis, baking pies, hiking mountains, volunteering for the local, regional and national Presbyterian Church, sewing clothes and Halloween costumes, teaching at Ellis and Larkin schools, and loving her family and numerous friends. She and her husband, Hal, enjoyed wintering at their condominium on Longboat Key.

The Elgin Illinois YWCA recognized Marcy for her leadership in developing an after-school tutoring program for Elgin youth. She was also an accomplished writer and published “Promises to Keep” and “Our Daughter Martha.”

Mrs. Henrikson is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 56 years, Harold “Hal”; children Martha, Andy and Ben; sisters Alicia and Clella; brother, Leon; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, May 17, at First Presbyterian Church of Elgin, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 240 Standish St., Elgin, Ill., 60123, or the American Cancer Society, cancer.org.
