OBITUARY: George Raymond Devine

George Raymond Devine, 85, of Longboat Key, died Aug. 26.

Born March 12, 1925, in Acushnet, Mass., he graduated from New Bedford High School and served in the Pacific theater as a radio operator-gunner with the 307th Bomb Squad, 13th Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He attended Amherst College and Harvard University and earned his DDS degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Devine was a practicing dentist and oral surgeon for more than 40 years in South Dartmouth, Mass. and member of the medical/dental staff of St. Luke’s Hospital. He also served on the teaching faculty of Tufts University Dental School and Bristol Community College Dental Hygiene Program.

Dr. Devine served for 12 years on the Dartmouth School Board. He was a lifelong Rotarian and past president of the Dartmouth Rotary Club. He enjoyed sailing, swimming, golf and skiing and was also an avid traveler.

Dr. Devine is survived by his wife, Eileen; son, Geoffrey, of South Dartmouth; and daughter, Dana, of Vancouver.

A memorial service will take place in October. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Senior Friendship Center’s Living Room, friendshipcenters.org, or Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, tidewell.org.
