Obituary: Dr. Donald Eugene Taggart

Dr. Donald Eugene Taggart, 78, of Osprey and formerly of Longboat Key, died Sept. 22.

 

Born July 26, 1934, in Akron, Ohio, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame before graduating as a dentist from Marquette University in 1958.

 

In 1960, Dr. Taggart and his wife, Colleen, moved to Bellevue, Ohio, to set up his dental practice. He became a longtime member of Knights of Columbus and a lifelong member of the Elks Club. He eagerly followed his four children’s activities while practicing as a dentist.

 

Dr. Taggart retired in 1998 and moved to Longboat Key, where he became a member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. Eventually, the Taggarts moved to Osprey, where they joined Our Lady Mount Carmel Church.

 

Dr. Taggart is survived by his wife of 55 years, Colleen; children Julie Canter, Tom Taggart, Ted Taggart and Tim Taggart; and eight grandchildren.

 

A service took place Sept. 30, at Our Lady Mount Carmel Church.
