Donald Weill, 82, of Sarasota, died Jan. 28.
At Syracuse University, Mr. Weill was editor-in-chief of the Daily Orange and poet laureate of the class of 1951. He served as a first lieutenant during the Korean War, after which he worked for the Long Island Star Journal. He then became publisher of The Somerset Star in Somerville, N.J. Mr. Weill also authored two books of poetry, titled “The Older I Get? Light Verse from a Senior Perspective” and “The Reluctant Investor and Other Light Verse.” His poems have appeared in The Saturday Evening Post, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
Mr. Weill was also a longtime broker and investor in Manhattan and senior vice president of Helmsley-Noyes.
An avid tennis player and golfer, Mr. Weill was a member of the Longboat Key Club.
Mr. Weill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elaine; his children, Wendi, Steven, Jeffrey and Kenneth; and 10 grandchildren.
