Obituary: David Schmidt

David Schmidt, 86, of Longboat Key, died May 1.

Born May 2, 1926, he was a World War II veteran and an attorney who was admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. Supreme Court. He had a career in the FBI, specializing in criminal cases, and retired with the rank of inspector.

Mr. Schmidt served as director of the Survey & Investigations Staff of the Committee on Appropriations in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In retirement, Mr. Schmidt was the first owner elected to the board of directors at Inn on the Beach and served as president for four years.

Mr. Schmidt was preceded in death by his son, Doug.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Colleen, and son, Dave, of Key Biscayne.
