Obituary: Catherine L. 'Kay' Ronson

Catherine L. “Kay” Ronson, 78, of Longboat Key and New York City, died March 26.

She was born and raised on a farm in Postenkill, N.Y. She graduated with an R.N. degree from Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y. In 1955, she married Harold Ronson, a Navy sailor. They had two daughters, Norma and Joanne.

Mrs. Ronson continued her nursing studies and eventually completed a baccalaureate and master’s degree from Russell Sage College. She served on the nursing faculty of Russell Sage for many years and taught medical-surgical and psychiatric nursing. After moving to New York City, she became involved in Central Synagogue and the UJA. Mrs. Ronson became a bat mitzvah at Central Synagogue, in 2001. In Sarasota, she was active in the Sarasota Opera, the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation and Temple Beth Israel of Longboat Key.

Mrs. Ronson is survived by her husband, Harold; daughters, Norma Koppel, of Rockville Centre, N.Y., and Joanne Ronson, of New York City; and two grandchildren.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Beth Israel of Longboat Key, 567 Bay Isles Road, Longboat Key, Fla., 34228; Senior Friendship Center/The Living Room, 1888 Brother Geenen Way, Sarasota, Fla., 34236; or to the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held March 29 in New York. Shiva will be held at the Ronsons’ Longboat Key home Sunday, April 1 and Monday, April 2.
