The Longboat Key Code Enforcement Board often hears one case or two during its monthly meetings. But those cases make up just a tiny sliver of violations that the town’s code enforcement handles, the vast majority of which are resolved and don’t go before the board.

During the first seven months of the year, code enforcement handled a total of 596 violations.

Turtle-lighting violations peak in May, the first month of nesting season, and then typically decrease during subsequent summer months as property owners address lighting issues.

Maintenance of premises violations also spike during the summer, because many property owners are out of town.
