Nolan Middle students who are interested in the medical field outscored their competition this week.

Feb. 4, 47 Nolan students and 80 students within Manatee County attended a HOSA competition. Nolan students earned 63% of the awards given.

The majority of students who attended will participate in the state competition slated for April 14 through April 16 in Orlando. They're another step closer to competing in the national competition, which is open to middle schoolers for the first time this year.

"We're on the road to our first opportunity for national competition," HOSA co-advisor Pam Rahn said.

Winning students include:

Derek Breiner, Zachary Busby and Calvin Chapman — Medical Spelling

Elliott Santaella — Health Science, History and HOSA Test

Julia Felice, Jason Breiner and Andrew Branch — Medical Reading

Andres Linares and Dylan Katchen — Prepared Speaking
