Sarasota residents are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening at Payne Park with neighbors and Sarasota Police Department officers tonight to celebrate the 28th annual National Night Out Against Crime.

The event will be held 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Payne Park/Sarasota Police Headquarters, 2099 Adams Lane. The family event is free.

National Night Out event will feature police units and vehicle displays, music, free food and bounce houses for children. The Suncoast Communities Bloodmobile also will be on-site.

Free parking is available at the Sarasota County parking garage, located adjacent to Payne Park, at the southwest corner of Ringling Boulevard and School Avenue.

National Night Out is sponsored by the city of Sarasota and the Sarasota Police Department.
The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
