The Sarasota Police Department arrested Rashad Lee Steen, 20, today for aggravated battery with a firearm and three counts of attempted murder in a shooting that occurred in Newtown early Sunday morning.

The department, however, is stressing that there are additional suspects involved in this shooting and the investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 1 a.m. Dec. 11, Sarasota police officers heard multiple gunshots in the area of North Washington Blvd and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. As officers were responding to the scene, calls were received advising of 40 to 50 shots fired and multiple shooting victims at 2530 N. Washington Blvd.

Officers arrived on the scene and located three victims that had each suffered multiple gunshot wounds. All of the victims had been occupants of a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. Two of the victims were still inside of the vehicle when officers arrived.

The victims have been identified as Raheem Maxwell of Sarasota, Laderrius Williams of Sarasota and Mikal Carnegie of Bradenton. Williams and Maxwell were transported to Blake Medical Center with critical injuries; and Carnegie was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
