+ Manatee County closed for July 4 holiday
Manatee County offices will be closed July 4 to observe Independence Day.
Trash and recycling collections for unincorporated residents will be postponed one day from July 4 to July 5.

Public libraries will close July 4 and will reopen July 5. Fixed-route transit services and Longboat Key trolley services will resume July 5.

County parks and beaches will remain open normal hours, as will Manatee County golf courses, G.T. Bray Recreation Center and Skate Park and Blackstone Skate Park. Trolley and Beach Express services will operate July 4, as well.

+ Man arrested for providing false information
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office ended its search for a child who allegedly was abducted June 24 on State Road 70 and arrested David L. Walker Sr. for allegedly providing false information to law enforcement June 27.

On June 24, an unidentified caller reported he witnessed a child taken from a bicycle and then put into a cargo van.

Authorities canvassed the area and found a bicycle on the side of the road, but did not receive a missing child report.

The sheriff’s office said Walker told detectives he reported the incident after seeing the bicycle on the side of the road and that he never witnessed a child being put into a van.

+ County hosts lender, Realtor workshop
Manatee County will host a workshop for Realtors and lenders actively involved in assisting homebuyers through the State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) down payment assistance program.

The meeting will be held 9 to 11 a.m. July 11, in the County Administration Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
