+ Trolley schedule remains intact until the spring
The Longboat Key’s trolley route schedule in both Manatee and Sarasota counties hasn’t changed.

Town Manager Bruce St. Denis told the Town Commission last week that both counties aren’t planning on making the change from half-hour pickups to hour pickups until March or April.

There is a 45-day period required to advertise (printed ads, signs at stops, notification from drivers or notices on buses) a change in the trolley schedule.

The planned conversion this spring will include using two buses, one from Sarasota County and one from Manatee County, that will combine to serve the island and provide one-hour pickups each way.

+ Town seeks volunteers for oversight committee
The town of Longboat Key is seeking applications for appointment to the Sarasota County Citizens Oversight Committee on public school facility planning.

Applicants must be registered to vote in the town of Longboat Key. Submit applications by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, to the Town Clerk. Board appointments will be considered at the 7 p.m. Feb. 7 Town
Commission regular meeting.

+ Longboat Public Interest Committee to hold forum
The Longboat Key Public Interest Committee (PIC) will hold a forum entitled “Longboat Key Beaches Under Pressure: What You Need to Know” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive. The event will include an introduction to Key beaches and early beach history, beach-design principles and strategy, modern beach project history, current beach status and assessment information, details about the proposed plan and March 15 referenda and a panel discussion.

+ Town Hall will be closed for Martin Luther King holiday
The town of Longboat Key and its various departments will be closed Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. All departments will be open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18.

The town of Longboat Key’s garbage, yard waste and recycling schedule is not affected, however, as a result of the holiday.
