+ Feb. 21 deadline to register for town election
The deadline to register to vote in the town’s March 20 general election, in which Bay Isles resident Ray Rajewski will face off against Vice Mayor David Brenner for the District 3 Longboat Key Town Commission seat, is Tuesday, Feb. 21. Requests for absentee ballots must be made by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14. For information about voter registration and absentee ballots, contact the Manatee Supervisor of Elections office at 741-3823 or votemanatee.com, or the Sarasota Supervisor of Elections Office at 861-8600 or sarasotavotes.com.

+ Sarasota Sheriff’s Office arrests former Key resident
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested psychologist and former Longboat Key resident Holli Bodner, 51, for providing controlled substances to an inmate during a visit at the Sarasota County Jail. Bodner was convicted in 2005 of lying to forcibly commit her neighbor to a mental-health facility after an ongoing dispute between the St. Judes Drive neighbors. She was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail and six months probation. In the latest incident, Bodner was charged with four felonies and released on $4,000 bond.

+ Commission appoints board members
The Longboat Key Town Commission made the following appointments at its Monday, Jan. 9, regular meeting: Michael Murphy as at-large trustee for the Firefighters’ Retirement System Board; Ron McDonough as at-large trustee for the General Employees’ Retirement System Board of Trustees; and Peter Kasdan as at-large trustee for the Police Officers’ Retirement System Board.

+ Pet licenses available at Alicia’s Grooming
Town pet licenses are now available at Alicia’s Grooming, 4134 Gulf of Mexico Drive, in addition to Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road. A town ordinance requires residents who reside on the island for more than 90 days to register with the town each dog or cat that is more than six months or older by Oct. 1 of each year. + Town Hall to close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Longboat Key Town Hall will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will re-open at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17. Trash pickup will not be affected by the holiday. For information, call 316-1999.
