+ Town to hold hazardous waste/E-scrap collection
The town, in conjunction with Manatee County and the cities of Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach and Anna Maria, will hold a Household Hazardous Waste/E-Scrap Collection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Gulf Side Park of Coquina Beach for island residents. Radioactive materials, including smoke detectors and bio-hazardous materials, will not be accepted. Small businesses will have to pay the contractor onsite for disposal of hazardous waste or E-scrap materials. For information, call the Longboat Key Public Works Department at 316-1988.

+ Commission to resume executive session
The Longboat Key Town Commission will hold an executive session Thursday, Jan. 26. Executive sessions are closed to the public and limited to discussions about collective bargaining issues. The last executive session was held in October.

+ Sylvia Walbolt to represent town in appeal
Sylvia Walbolt, shareholder of the Tampa-based Carlton Fields, will represent the town in its second-tier certiorari petition that seeks review of Judge Charles E. Roberts’ recent ruling. The ruling granted a petition for a writ of certiorari in the challenge of the Longboat Key Town Commission’s approval of the proposed Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Islandside project. According to her biography on her firm’s website, carltonfields.com, Walbolt is board-certified in appellate law and antitrust law and is a former president of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. She is currently a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and chair of the College’s Committee for Teaching Trial and Appellate Advocacy. The Key Club will pay for the town’s costs associated with the appeal.

+ Bullock to speak at PIC town meeting
David Bullock will speak about his first 100 days as Longboat Key town manager at a Longboat Key Public Interest Committee (PIC) town meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Bayfront Park Recreation Center, 4052 Gulf of Mexico Drive. The meeting is open to nonmembers and will also provide information about entities that regularly seek citizen volunteers. For information, email [email protected].
