+ Beruff appointed to board by governor
Gov. Rick Scott on April 20 reappointed Carlos M. Beruff, of Medallion Home, to the board of trustees for the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.

Beruff, 54, is a member of the National Home Builders Association and the Home Builders Association of Manatee-Sarasota.

His reappointment will be for a term beginning June 1 and ending May 31, 2016. The appointment still must be confirmed by the Florida Senate.

+ District 5 candidates earn new endorsements
Manatee County Commission District 5 seat Vanessa Baugh and John Colon both received new endorsements.

Baugh earned the unanimous endorsement of the Home Builders Association Manatee-Sarasota April 16; Colon will be backed by the Gulf Coast Builders Xchange.

“This is such an honor, and I am thrilled to have the Home Builders Association behind me,” Baugh said.
Colon offered similar sentiments about his GCBX endorsement.

“I am pleased and honored to be endorsed by the leading organization of prominent business people and entrepreneurs in Manatee County,” he said. “It was the first time both my opponent and I have been interviewed and through the selection process. My background as a businessman and manager combined with my conservative message of controlling the county budget, reducing taxes, rebuilding the economy and growing jobs was tested and then endorsed.”

+ Humane Society  launches food program
The Humane Society of Lakewood Ranch will begin offering a once-a-month pet food bank.

Starting in May, the non-profit will offer an opportunity for East County residents in need to pick up supplies for their hungry pets. The pet food bank event will be hosted from 10 a.m. to noon, the first Saturday of each month, in the parking lot of 2nd Chance Boutique, 6293 Lake Osprey Drive, Lakewood Ranch.
