+ Autism fundraiser slated for Main Street
In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, the Center for Autism Resources and Education will hold its fourth annual C.A.R.E. Be Aware Autism 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk May 5, on Lakewood Ranch Main Street.
The 5K run starts at 8 a.m., while the one-mile walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Registration costs $25 and is available online at www.careautism.net or at 7 a.m. on site the day of the event. Late registrants can pick up packets from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through May 4 at Fit-2-Run, 8249 Cooper Creek Blvd., Sarasota.

For more information, call 758-4589.

+ Alliance makes memories on golf course
The Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance will swing into a new networking venture — its own golf league — on May 17.

“So much networking is done on the golf course, this just seemed like a natural extension to our member benefits,” said Robin Parsons, business development director for the alliance. “The golf league will allow members to network in smaller groups while working on their golf game.”

The league will be Thursday evenings at the Legacy Golf Club, 8225 Legacy Blvd., and will run for 15 weeks staring May 7. The winning team from the first seven weeks of play will play against the winner of the second seven weeks of play during a championship this summer.

Tee times will start at 4 p.m. Each team will consist of two players.

Cost to join the league will be $395, and includes weekly green fees, prize money and an end-of-the-season banquet.

For information, contact Steve Goeller at the Legacy Golf Club at 907-7920.

+ New Mah Jongg group forms in Ranch
Lakewood Ranch resident Cindy Tench is looking to start a new club in Lakewood Ranch.

The Lakewood Ranch Evening Mah Jongg Club still is in planning phases, but Tench hopes to attract players of all skill levels. Some experience is preferred.

Tench said the group likely would play from 6:30-9 p.m. one night a week, to be determined by the group, and it can either play weekly or biweekly.

Anyone interested in joining should contact Tench at 961-4224 or [email protected].
