+ Chick-Fil-A night to benefit missions team
A local missions team will be providing some family fun for East County residents and their friends May 21.

Bayside Community Church’s Bridge a Life Uganda Mission Team will be on site from 5-8 p.m. May 21, at the Chick-Fil-A at 5384 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, to offer face-painting, balloons and live music for patrons. Ten percent of proceeds from the event will benefit the mission team. Patrons must specify they are ordering on behalf of the “Bridge a Life Uganda Mission Team.”

As part of the festivities, there also will be a chance to win a raffle for a new iPad and a new iPod Touch.

The Bridge a Life Ministry at Bayside offers support to adoptive and foster parents and aims to “ensure abused, abandoned, neglected or otherwise orphaned children thrive in Christ-centered families.” A part of the ministry also focuses on adopting children from Uganda.

+ Business world enters Manatee classes
Manatee County school children got a firsthand look into the business world May 4, as more than 100 business professionals volunteered their time in local classrooms.

As part of the Manatee County Chamber of Commerce’s Project Teach Everyone About Career Horizons, or T.E.A.C.H. program, volunteers spoke to more than 3,000 fourth-grade students in 32 public, private and charter schools about their occupations, education and the importance of first impressions.

Children also took time to design their own business cards based on their career aspirations.
