+ Town prepares for impasse with firefighters
The town of Longboat Key is prepared to declare impasse with the Longboat Key Firefighters union at the end of October, unless the firefighters are prepared to present another proposal that offers substantial savings to the town.

The town has not accepted a proposal the firefighters presented in September, and the union is making plans to have its pension actuary run more numbers to verify the cost savings for the town before impasse is declared.

+ Key Club plans to re-file application
Longboat Key Planning, Zoning and Building Director Robin Meyer told the Longboat Observer that the Longboat Key Club and Resort intends to submit its Islandside renovation-and-expansion project application Oct. 9. The town will then make a determination on the application’s completeness by Oct. 23.

+ Publix update
The new Publix project took another big step last week, with construction workers installing fiber cement board near the building’s roofline. It’s the last step before the fascia is installed. Plywood sheeting has also been installed, which means the roofing will be installed shortly. The store is on schedule for a December opening.
