+ TreeUmph!, memorial fund team up to beat disease
The Lauren O’Hara Memorial Fund and TreeUmph! Adventure Course are teaming to raise funds for children with cancer being treated at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.

TreeUmph!, a new treetop obstacle course in East County, will donate 25% of all ticket sales from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, May 5.

 “We’re honored to be part of this fundraiser to help make the lives of kids going through cancer treatments a little bit brighter,” said Kathy Corr, co-owner of TreeUmph!

This is the first fundraiser for the Lauren O’Hara Memorial Fund, a donor-advised fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota formed by Patrick and Jean O’Hara.

The couple created the fund to honor the memory of their daughter, Lauren, who died of leukemia at age 18, only nine months after she was diagnosed.

 “Lauren endured countless procedures, chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and more,” Jean O’Hara said. “Every part of this was difficult, on top of very long in-hospital stays. If we can brighten a child’s day and create needed diversions by stocking their room with an Xbox, DVDs and games, that’s our goal. Lauren would have wanted to do this.”

In addition to swinging through the trees at TreeUmph!, participants can enjoy food, a raffle and the opportunity to add their name to a donor registry for Be the Match, a national bone marrow donor program.
The fund is also asking for donations of new DVDs to donate to the All Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology unit.

+ Corrections
A story in the April 25 issue, “Mills creates plan to fix budget,” incorrectly listed Don Hall’s former job title. He is the former information officer of Minneapolis Public Schools.

An April 25 story titled “Sporting Chance,” about Ancient Oak Gun Club, incorrectly stated its public opening date. The club will not open for the public until an undetermined week in May. The club did open, for tournament play, with the Roger Hill Memorial Shoot April 28.
