+ Mar Vista’s renovation receives commission approval
The Longboat Key Town Commission approved a site-plan amendment and special exception at its Monday, May 6, regular meeting for Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub. The approval allows for a second-story waterfront dining addition and a meeting room and a small deck in an adjacent house that could be used for private parties and wedding receptions.

Some Longbeach Village residents, who worry allowing approximately 330 people on the site in season will create a traffic problem in their residential neighborhood, criticized the decision. The approval allows for 160 seats for the restaurant and a capacity of 150 people in a meeting room and deck on top of the restaurant’s adjacent historic house for private parties.

A contingency of the approval, however, allows staff to pull outdoor dining seats if it observes too much congestion on Broadway and at the restaurant site.

+ Boat and trailer committee to form after recommendation
The Longboat Key Town Commission agreed with the Planning and Zoning Board’s recommendation to form a subcommittee to analyze what kind of restrictions should be placed on the parking of boats and trailers.

At its Monday, May 6, regular meeting, the commission agreed the planning board could move forward with a taskforce of residents in different neighborhoods to come up with a recommendation for the boat and trailer parking code enforcement issue.

Currently, under the town code, any number of boats and trailers can legally sit in driveways, yards or side yards. Although some neighborhoods are asking for restrictions, other communities such as the Longbeach Village don’t want to be forced to park boats elsewhere.
