+ Longboat police department will purchase three new rides
Longboat Key police will receive three new vehicles, according to an email from Town Manager Dave Bullock to the Longboat Key Town Commission.
The current fiscal year budget includes $108,000 to replace three vehicles using infrastructure surtax funds.
Two vehicles will be SUVs, and one will be a patrol car.
Marked police vehicles are replaced every two years, at or around the time they reach 100,000 miles.
+ Gulf Beach Resort receives Sarasota County grant
The Gulf Beach Resort on Lido Beach is the recipient of a $10,000 Sarasota County Neighborhood Grant for the Florida Friendly Landscaping Program. The historic motel received matching funds for the removal of invasive and/or exotic trees and plants, micro-irrigation and ground cover for conservation of water and energy sources and new signage.
All plants used for the project were Florida native or Florida-friendly plantings.
+ Turtle Watch launches ‘Name the Nest’ program
Longboat Key Turtle Watch will again offer beachgoers the chance to name the nest of their choice on the Manatee County portion of Longboat Key’s beach.
For a $10 contribution, the nest’s name will be marked on the back of a stake, and the location, along with a photo of the nest, will be sent to the contributor. When the nest hatches, Turtle Watch will send information about the date and time of the nest excavation, along with the number of eggs that were hatched, unhatched and live hatchlings in the nest.
