+ Closures planned for Veterans Day
All Sarasota County government offices, including libraries, recreation centers and the Sarasota County History Center will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

City of Sarasota administration offices will be closed as well, including City Hall, Public Works and the Federal Building.

Road closures for the Veterans Day Parade will also take place throughout the morning, with all roads scheduled to reopen at 12:30 p.m.

At 6 a.m., Gulfstream Avenue will be closed from Cocoanut Avenue to
McAnsh Square.

At 8 a.m., Main Street will be closed from U.S. 301 to Osprey Avenue; Osprey Avenue will be closed from Second Street To Ringling Boulevard; and Links Avenue will be closed from Fruitville Road to
Ringling Boulevard.

At 9 a.m., Main Street will be closed from Osprey Avenue to Gulfstream Avenue.

Arlington Park will be open from noon to 5 p.m., and Payne Park will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SCAT bus service and waste management services will run normally.

+ City Commission to extend Street Team program
The Sarasota City Commission directed staff to bring back an agreement that could keep the Street Team homeless outreach program in place through 2016.

During a meeting Monday, commissioners asked staff to prepare an agreement that would fund the Street Teams through September of next year, with two additional one-year extension options. To support the program until September 2014, the city will pay an additional $13,500.

The program, which began in March 2012 and is set to expire after February, is designed to help volunteers develop experience and skills that will assist them in the search for a job.

+ Broken Egg closes in Siesta Key Village
Siesta breakfast joint Broken Egg shuttered its doors this week.

Restaurant owner Bob Kirscher sold the Siesta Key and Lakewood Ranch locations of the restaurant to Destin, Fla.-based Another Broken Egg of America Inc., and the Clark Road location to longtime managing partner Dawn Hair. The Broken Egg on Clark Road will continue to operate with the same menu, Hair said in a Wednesday interview with the Sarasota Observer.

Another Broken Egg has closed the Siesta Key location for renovations. The last day of service was Tuesday. The company will continue operations as normal at the Lakewood Ranch restaurant, but could change the menu later this month, Hair said.
