New hospital named for Key residents Raj and Indu Soin

A new hospital in Beavercreek, Ohio, will be named for Longboat Key residents Indu and Raj Soin.

The Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center will be part of the Kettering Health Network and is projected to be completed in the first quarter of 2012. The facility will be the second hospital to carry the Soin name — Raj Soin is the main contributor to the Sukhdev Raj Soin Hospital, recently built in India in memory of his late father.

Also carrying the Soin name are the Raj Soin School of Business at Wright State University, in Dayton, Ohio, and the Dayton Children’s Medical Center Soin Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Center.

“Our philanthropic activities are typically concentrated in two areas: education and health care,” said Raj Soin in a prepared statement. “I strongly believe in the adage that once you provide a person with education, it gives them capabilities for lifelong earnings, and they do not need any ongoing support. The only restriction they can have after that is if they are not in good health, which is why we focus our activities in education and health care. We chose to assist Kettering Health Network in their project because we share a mission to improve the quality of life for the people in our community.”

Indu and Raj Soin became U.S. citizens in 1978, just as Raj Soin was finishing seven years with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. The couple later founded Modern Technologies Corp. with $1,700 cash and credit cards. The company grew to provide engineering and technical services to the U.S. Department of Defense and quickly spawned additional businesses in numerous industries.
