The New Gate School Board of Trustees recently voted to form a long-term partnership with The Montessori Foundation by merging New Gate with the foundation’s newly established Field School.

According to Tim Sedlin, head of school for the New Gate-Field School and senior program director of the foundation, the new school will serve as both an international model school and center for curriculum development for Montessori schools and teachers around the world.

The school — a 100-acre campus on Clark Road — will offer Montessori classes for toddlers through high school students, and plans to seek additional accreditation through the International Baccalaureate organization for its Montessori middle and high school programs. The board is also exploring the possibility of a satellite campus for students under age 6, potentially by re-opening New Gate’s campus on Ashton Road.

“Having come to this conclusion, the board endeavored to find the best possible leadership in the Montessori community,” said Robert Dodd, chairman of the New Gate Board of Trustees. “Given their national and global leadership, their longstanding history with our school an their presence in Sarasota, we have concluded that New Gate’s best interests would be served by partnering with the Montessori Foundation.”
