New College of Florida will host up to 10 Middle Eastern women per year with four-year scholarships beginning in the fall of 2014, as part of the New College — Daughters for Life Community Initiative.

New College President Donal O’Shea, 12th Judicial Cicuit Court Judge Charles Williams and Longboat Key resident Dan Boxser announced the partnership with Daughters for Life Founder Dr. Izzelin Abuelaish via Skype Tuesday, June 4.

The Herman and Sally Boxser Diversity Initiative, founded by Boxser, and Embracing Our Differences hosted Abuelaish in February — the idea grew out of that speech.

“Study after study has shown the groundbreaking effects of educating women,” O’Shea said during the announcement. The scholars chosen will embed themselves in the local culture to create a unique learning experience for themselves as well as local students.
