The mystery of a missing girl has enveloped Longboat Key.

At least in Peter Coates’ “DNA — The Answer” it has. The fictional book tells the story of John Wells, a Florida senator working on a task force to expand the nation’s DNA database. He has a home on Longboat Key, and while his family is visiting for a weekend, his daughter goes missing.

“I always dreamed of writing a book, and it was at the top of my bucket list,” Coates said. “I was inspired to use Longboat Key as the setting because I have thought since I first arrived on the west coast of Florida that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world.”
