Sarasota Police found the body of 23-year-old Jovonne Corn March 14, in a Newtown field behind the Boys & Girls Club. Yesterday, Kevin Peterson was sentenced for her murder.

Peterson, the 19-year-old homeless man arrested for her murder, received a 30-year prison sentence in the 12th Judicial Circuit Court Monday, Aug. 12 — nearly five months to the day after police discovered Corn's body.

Peterson told friends details of the murder and arrived at a witness's house covered in blood and out of breath the evening of March 12, according to a Sarasota Police news release.

U.S. Marshals arrested Peterson April 3.
