Mote 'Sanctuary Reef' exhibit opens tomorrow

Mote’s “Sanctuary Reef” traveling exhibit opens tomorrow and offers a shrimp's-eye view of coral reefs.

The exhibit features a model coral reef cove inside the hull of an overturned ship with models of corals, fish, eels and other reef fauna, while the exhibit’s exterior provides reef-related information.

“We’ve created an exhibit that visitors can walk into and be surrounded by larger-than-life corals and other reef animals,” said Elizabeth Metz-Kirk, director of Mote’s Center for Distance Learning.

The exhibit is on display from Dec. 15 through Jan. 10, 2011, at Mote’s Ann and Alfred Goldstein Marine Mammal Research and Rehabilitation Center, 1703 Ken Thompson Parkway. Visitors can view the exhibit for free with cost of Mote aquarium admission: $17 for adults, $16 for seniors (over 65), $12 for ages 4 to 12, and free for children 3 and under. Admission is free for Mote members.
