Longboat Key golfer Arlene McKitrick recently scored her 160th victory on the course at a recent club championship.

For McKitrick, reaching 160 took a couple of swings. Earlier this summer, she started out two shots behind in the first round of the Mid Gulf Coast Amateur but surged ahead of the leader by eight shots — only to have the final round canceled because of bad weather. Later, McKitrick started off strong at the Florida State Senior Amateur tournament but lost by one shot after getting worn down by the heat and humidity. Then, a skin-cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery took McKitrick off the course for four weeks. But the third time was the charm when McKitrick took to the course to earn her latest victory.

McKitrick recently learned she has more skin cancer and will need to stay off the course for another four weeks. But she says that after that, she’ll be back on the course and ready to set new goals.
