Mayor Spoll receives standing ovation

At a special meeting held Tuesday, March 15 to approve Comprehensive Plan changes for the Department of Community Affairs' review, Mayor George Spoll received a standing ovation from an audience of approximately 75 people.

Commissioner Phillip Younger noted that Spoll, who will reach his term limit next week, had just completed his last official act as mayor. The news prompted an audience of both Islandside renovation-and-expansion project supporters and opponents to stand and applaud. Spoll received handshakes from all of the attorneys involved in the Islandside project hearings over which he presided.

Said Spoll: “It was very gratifying and astonishing to get a standing ovation from all sides of the (Islandside project) aisle. It makes you feel that you must have done something right up there.”
